My Journey: From Confusion to Clarity
I spent years believing something was wrong with me.
The truth was, I was intelligent. I was capable. I had built a successful career managing teams, solving complex problems, and helping others navigate challenges. Yet somehow, in my own relationship, I found myself questioning my reality.
I couldn’t understand why I felt like I was losing myself. Why I second-guessed my instincts. Why I apologized for things I didn’t do. Why I kept trying to explain my feelings to someone who wasn’t truly listening.
Over time, I began to recognize the painful truth: his words and his actions did not align. The person he claimed to be was not reflected in the way he treated me. And when someone’s promises, apologies, and image don’t match their repeated behaviors, that is a powerful warning sign.
I learned that giving endless chances to someone who refuses to take accountability doesn’t create change. It only teaches you to keep abandoning yourself.
The more chances I gave, the more I was hurting the one person I had the responsibility to protect: myself.
But this is what covert narcissistic abuse does.
It doesn’t look like the abuse most people imagine. There may be no yelling. No visible injuries. No obvious moment where everyone around you can see what is happening.
Instead, it can be a slow erosion of your confidence, your instincts, and your ability to trust your own reality, often carried out by someone who appears completely different to the outside world.
By the time I understood what I had actually experienced, I realized how much I had lost. I had lost years trying to make sense of something that never made sense. I had lost confidence in myself. I had lost trust in my own perceptions and questioned what was real.
But I got out.
And when I started searching for answers and support, I discovered another painful reality: there was a gap.
There were so many therapists and other professionals who genuinely wanted to help but didn’t recognize the patterns. There were resources available, but much of the language felt clinical and disconnected from what survivors actually experience.
What I couldn’t find was something created by someone who truly understood both sides: the lived experience of surviving covert narcissistic abuse and the need for professionals to have better tools to recognize and support it.
What I also learned through my healing journey is that awareness changes everything.
When we can finally put language to what happened, we can begin to separate who we truly are from the messages we were taught to believe about ourselves. We can understand that the confusion, self-doubt, and loss of identity were not signs of weakness. They were responses to an experience that was difficult to recognize and even harder to explain.
But survivors should not have to spend years searching for answers after the damage has already been done.
That is why I created Covert Free Academy.
I took the tools, insights, and understanding I desperately needed during my own recovery and transformed them into resources designed to help others identify patterns sooner, find validation faster, and begin rebuilding their sense of self.
I also recognized that survivors need more than awareness. They need professionals who understand what they are describing.
A survivor may walk into a therapist’s office, a courtroom, a healthcare setting, or a support program and struggle to explain what happened because covert abuse often leaves behind confusion rather than obvious evidence.
That is where education matters.
My work now focuses on equipping therapists, advocates, legal professionals, and other helping professionals with survivor-informed knowledge and practical tools so they can recognize the signs, understand the impact, and provide support that truly meets survivors where they are.
Because the difference between being dismissed and being understood can change the entire trajectory of someone’s healing.
I know because I lived it.
And now, I use what I learned to help make sure others do not have to navigate that journey alone.

Our unique approach: Lived experience meets expertise
Most abuse resources are built for the abuse everyone already recognizes. Covert Free is built for the kind nobody names. Here's what makes it different: I didn't learn this from a textbook. I lived it, then I went and got the credentials to back it up. Every tool I build starts with the same question: Does this match what it actually felt like? Not what a diagnostic manual says it should feel like, but what it really felt like, from the inside, while it was happening to you.
Most programs treat survivors and professionals as two separate audiences. I don't. A therapist who's never lived through this kind of abuse is working with a blind spot, no matter how good their training is. A survivor without the right language is stuck feeling crazy with no way to explain it. So I build for both at once. My assessment tools work in a clinical setting. My guides work at 2am when you're sitting on your bathroom floor trying to figure out if you're the problem.

Envisioning a future of self-trust
I want people to stop doubting themselves. That's the whole vision. Someone finds Covert Free confused, exhausted, wondering if they're the problem. I want them to leave knowing exactly what happened to them and knowing it wasn't their fault. Past that, I want them rebuilding. Setting boundaries without guilt. Trusting their own judgment again. Recognizing the pattern early if it ever shows up again, in a relationship, a job, a friendship, so it never costs them years the way it cost me.
Long term, I want Covert Free woven into the systems that are supposed to catch this. Therapists trained to spot it. DV organizations equipped to name it. Survivors who don't have to stumble onto the right words by accident, the way I did. The lasting difference isn't a single moment of feeling understood. It's someone rebuilding a life where they trust themselves again, and never losing that ground back.
"The insights and support from Covert Free have been invaluable in my healing journey. It's truly transformative."
A grateful survivor
